I am a teacher and a rocker with a passion (and specialisation) in CLIL. I am a CLIL teacher trainer, too. I teach in one of the 6 IBI-BEI schools in Italy, with a fantastic project of bilingual education, 100% CLIL. My pupils call me "Miss Angela", and I call them my dwarfs. So we are a sheer fairy tale: Miss Angela and her dwarfs!
I have a degree in Modern Language (specialisation in English and Serbocroatian and philologic address), another degree in Italian Literature and Popular Tratitions. My first book "As you like her" was awarded of the 1st prize for Philology. I am a specialised secondary school teacher, too. I gained expertise in bilingual education in primary school. One of the most challenging experience was at "UCL", London, where I was invited to talk about my experience and the great results achieved by my dwarfs. My voyage into CLIL, after the master CeCLIL, was deeply influenced by my participation in TechnoCLIL and PNF04, with the knowledge of the importance played by ICT in teaching experience, especially in CLIL classes. Children reacted enthusiastically. I am part of the "Companion Action Research" under the guidance of Dr. Gisella Langè (MIUR) and Dr. Letizia Cinganotto (INDIRE) and I am very fond of this experience. I play the bass guitar in different bands, above all LABYRINTHUS NOCTIS, and I am part of Rockin'1000, the biggest rock band on earth! I enter my classes as the rocker I am! :D |

MY EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE IN BILINGUAL EDUCATION: MISS ANGELA |
IBI-BEI (bilingual education in primary school): A lasting journey |
The choice of being "Miss Angela" is a direct consequence of my way of teaching English in my school, which is a BEI school.
I enter my classes speaking English only and I've been doing that since day 1 of year 1. I love including all pupils and engaging them all through a big deal of different activities in which they are the only protagonists. I am the director/facilitator but the scene is theirs. They play games, sing song, create and use technology, organize classes, create lapbooks and dioramas, and live the experience of English language in a sheer full immersion 100% CLIL. Because CLIL is the medium of using the language in a real context. And they act as native speakers, also using the language to think and reason about different topics. It is possible, all is possible if you believe you can do. And children are capable of anything. My experience shows that children can do anything if we show them we believe in them! |
I've been teaching in a BEI school since 2013 when I became a permanent teacher, and I chose primary school (after years in secondary schools) because, as a Philologist and Linguist, I was extremely curious about the opportunities given by a Bilingual Curriculum in primary school.
WHAT IS IBI-BEI: IBI-BEI (Istruzione Bilingue Italia - Bilingual Education Italy) was born in Lombardy in 2010 by a dream of MIUR Inspector Dr. Gisella Langé. Six schools were chosen as the pilot schools (6-7 hours per week in English with some subjects completely in English, such as Science, Geography, Arts&Crafts). After the 5 years of piloting experience (supported by MIUR, USR Lombardy and British Council) the schools went on autonomically and something changed. My dream is to share the experience throughout Italy (and not only!) so that all primary schools could achieve more expertise and give the students the opportunity of living bilingual education in primary schools as a ministerial programme. |
